Fetal and Infant Mortality Review
(FIMR)
The overall goal of the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) is to enhance the
health and well being of women, infants and their families through improving the
community resources and service delivery systems available to them.  FIMR is an
ongoing community process for assessing, planning, improving and monitoring the
maternal child health service system.  It brings together key members of the
community to examine information from individual cases of fetal and infant death to
identify the factors that contributed to those deaths, determine if these factors
represent system problems that require change, develop recommendations for
change, and assist in the implementation of change, FIMR has reviewed 73 cases
since January 1999, with an average of 8-10 cases per year.
